Rodney Bates is from Cabarrus County and will be representing Region 1. Rodney works for the NC Dept. of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as a behavior specialist. His wife Crystal is a guidance counselor. He brings to the board his ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.

Becky Burmester and her husband Joe have fostered for more than 18 years and have been licensed by four agencies in three different states. They have been parents to 77 children, two of whom are grown birth children. Becky is the longest serving member on our board and has worked diligently on our training conferences, advocacy, and communications. She currently has three children under three years of age in her family! Becky often works with birth mothers in the prison system: providing homes for their children, arranging visitations at the prison, and helping them make arrangements for themselves & their children upon release. Becky represents Region 3.

Matt Davies and his wife Sarah have been fostering for little over one year will be adopting two wonderful girls in June (fingers crossed/knocking on wood). Matt is a Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker - Howard Perry and Walston. Matt's goals for the NCFPA this year are mighty ones, that we know he will help us reach!! They are:
  • Increase membership by 10%;
  • Help plan more local trainings;
  • Work towards organizational growth through grant writing, etc.;
  • Become a more powerful presence, place where foster parents turn for up to date information and guideance.

Matt is from Region 3.

Carson Dean is the Program Director for Preparation for Independent Living at Haven House Services, a private nonprofit. This program serves Wake County's homeless and at-risk youth population ages 15-21 utilizing foster host homes and scattered sites apartments. Carson also serves on the Board of Directors for the Wake Housing and Homeless Coalition and the Triangle United Way Basic Needs Community Care Team. Carson is former history teacher and is married to Kris. They have three dogs, two of which are adopted. Carson lives in Raleigh and represents Region 3.
Geraldine D. Fox, resident of Charlotte, NC, has been fostering for a little more than five years. Gerri started out as a Family Mentoring Parent, embracing the entire family to overcome obstacles, barriers and finally working toward reunification for all of the children taken out of the home. Gerri is now fostering in the area of intensive care. Gerri fosters for Youth Homes, Inc. of Charlotte, NC. Her goals include bringing valuable service to NCFPA and providing support to parents and children in care. Gerri is mother of six biological adults (five sons; one daughter; three grandsons, and two granddaughters), and represents Region 1.
Edith Fuller and her husband Ronald have been licensed foster parents since 1999. Edith is anxious to serve on the board so she can use her talents to help foster parents become more informed, better trained, and more involved. She strongly believes that we are professional parents and that the NCFPA is the way for us to work together to have others view us as such. Edith represents Region 2.
Kay Gillis was re-elected as vice-president of Region 2. Kay is also chairperson of the Communications committee and has been busy with Newsline, Internet mailings and the NCFPA website. She and her husband Pete have been foster parents for almost four years. This year they adopted two children they had fostered. Kay recently became a certified MAPP co-leader and is looking forward to training perspective foster/adoptive parents.
Donna Greene was re-elected as vice president of Region 1. Donna and her husband, Darren, live in Union County with their two adopted children. They have been foster parents for two years and currently have two other children in their family. Donna has done extensive research on parenting children with attachment issues and has organized a support group, H.O.P.E, Helping Overwhelmed Parents Everyday that is meeting in the Charlotte area. Donna is also the chairperson of the Advocacy Committee and is busy working on getting our voices heard in Raleigh!
Mark Holden represents Region 4, in fact, he was born in Brunswick county and has lived there all his life. He has been married to Rosemary for 13 years. They have three children (two by birth, one by adoption) and currently have two other children in their family. Mark is an electrician and an ordained minister. He just returned from the Amazon jungle of Peru where he was on a mission trip to provide food, water, and homes to families and orphanages there. Mark intends to promote better foster care by being more informed, expressing foster parents' views and concerns to the agencies we are in contact with, and getting information that can be shared with others.

Lucinda Semidey is serving a second year on the Board from Region 4. She lives in Brunswick county and, although quiet, worked hard this pass year on the Walk-a-thon and the training conference. She plans to be even more involved this year in helping the NCFPA met the needs of foster parents across the state.

Jeffrey M. Stevens has been married to a wonderful woman for 23 years and has three children. They have also been raising a niece who is now 14. Jeff works at IBM and is pursuing a degree in computer programming. Jeff was elected Treasurer of the NCFPA for 2003 and says "This is a great opportunity for me to serve an organization that is geared to serving others. I really enjoy this position and I will do everything in my power and ability to keep the finances of this organization in order and make sure that all records are kept to the highest standards. I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who were responsible for my getting this position, and let them know that I will no let them down." Jeff is from Region 2.
Bobby Toms has been married to Aileen for thirteen years. They received their license in 1999, followed quickly by a set of three-month-old twins boys and their five-year-old sister. They now have two more children in their care, a three-year-old boy, and his 8-month-old sister, for a total of five children under six! They are also the parents of five children and grandparents of seven! Bobby is active in the newly formed local foster parents association in Shelby, NC. Bobby is an alternate in Region 1.
Lisa Ann Whitman was born and raised in Detroit metro area. She moved to Wilmington, NC in 1982. She and her husband Ralph have been married for 18 years and have one adopted son, and are currently fostering to adopt a beautiful little daughter. Lisa loves flower gardening, dogs, gymnastics, contemporary Christian music, and classic movies. She also volunteers at their church with meals for moms in-reach program and serves on the Neighborhood Children committee. Lisa begins her second year representing Region 4.
