N.C. Foster Parent Association 2001 Conference

Last October found nearly 350 participants at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in RTP learning and laughing together. There is an enthusiasm in the air when foster and adoptive parents gather that is found at no other conference. People attend on their own time, pay their own way, and come back year after year because of what they gain from attending.

Workshops abound: at our most recent conference we had 35 to choose from. The hotel and conference center staff go out of their way to make sure things go smoothly. Ideas and coping strategies are freely shared. Every year at least one foster parent has been heard to say, “I only came because I had already paid. Things have been going so badly that I had decided not to renew my license. But people here understood my problems, gave me new ideas, and I am going to continue as a foster parent.”

Plan now to attend the 2002 Conference on November 16 and 17 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel just off of Interstate 40 in Durham. You will be glad you attended. Be good to yourself and you can continue being good to kids! Check the NCFPA website for further information. Ask your licensing agency to arrange for respite care for the weekend so you can attend.
