Waiting for the Phone to Ring
by Frances Hutson

I walk into the nursery, touch tiny baby things.
I call to mind all our precious ones
and wish the phone would ring.

I look through the baby album
I push the bear in the baby swing
I put on the lullaby tape
and wish the phone would ring.

I call and check in with our worker
Just to ask, hows everything?
He laughs for he knows why Im calling
Im waiting for the phone to ring.

I pray each night for the little ones
For someone to love them and meet their need.
But if theres one that needs love and care,
Im here, waiting for the phone to ring.
